Pluridisplinary artist
The artistic work of Patries Wichers has its roots in visual arts with incursions into the world of theatre, fashion, music and sound.
In 1998 she was a member of the Hit & Run group of artists who, through the occupation of the ICC Art Centre of Antwerp, initiated the NICC; a Belgian rights organisation for artists. In 2003 this organisation obtained an official status for artists in Belgium.
In recent years she has been primarily preoccupied with music and sound. Patries Wichers, Thomas Campaert and Giles Thomas are at the core of the organisation, Bateau Lavoir. Around this collective a wide network of artists and musicians is now active organising events and running a label for non-repertoire music. For Patries the element of improvisation and collaboration are the most important aspects of this activity. She utilises them in her multidisciplinary approach to the MUS-E workshops with children.
