Enrique Barón Crespo
President of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation
Enrique Barón Crespo has been the President of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation ever since the death of Yehudi Menuhin.
Born in Madrid on 27 March 1944, Enrique Barón Crespo has a Doctorate of Law and of Economics from the University of Madrid. He also holds a diploma in commercial sciences from ICADE- Madrid and from the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (ESSEC) in Paris. He speaks six European languages fluently and is the author of many books about Europe: his latest publications include ”Europa, Pasión y Razón” published in 2004, “La Constitucionalización del Poder Legislativo en la Unión Europea”, his doctoral thesis published in 2005, as well as articles on Europe.
His political career in Spain led him to be the Minister in the Spanish Government who concluded the negotiations over membership in the EC. He is a European Deputy and a former President of the European Parliament (1989-92) as well as of the Parliamentary Group of the Party of European Socialists. He also has been President of the Committee on External Trade and President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Security of the European Parliament. He presently is a member of the Committee of Constitutional Affairs of the European Parliament.
